Research

BL receptors were undefined until the discovery in 2007, of a new type of BL receptor, the aureochrome (AUREO), from the photosynthetic stramenopile alga, Vaucheria (Takahashi et al. 2007 PNAS). AUREO has a bZIP domain and a LOV domain, and thus BL-responsive transcription factor. AUREO orthologs are only conserved in photosynthetic stramenopiles, such as brown algae, diatoms, and red tide algae (Ishikawa et al. 2009 Planta). Furthermore, we analyzed photochemical properties of AUREO (Hisatomi et al.2013 PCP,2014 JBC).

Ongoing project

・Biochemical analysis of orthologs of AUREO in stramenopiles

・Transcriptome analysis in Vaucheria, brown alga, and red tide algae.

・Physiological analysis of photomorphogenesis and photomovement in stramenopiles
